My Fiance and I dropped off our english bulldog for a 4 day stay to test it out in order leave on a longer vacation in a few months. We will never put her through that again. I am mortified by the experience at the escarpment pet “retreat”. We are pretty easy going people and are only going out of our way to share our experience so no one has to come home to a traumatized pet. Dogs are important family members to many and this facility provides negligible care while advertising a vacation-like experience. From the moment we got her in the car it was clear that it was not a “happy, healthy and comfortable stay” as promised. Bulldogs have an incredibly high pain tolerance and it is very clear that our dog is in an immense amount of pain. Her paw pads on ALL 4 paws are so torn up she is unable to walk & the pain is visible in her face. She is a very obedient dog but can be timid at times, her injuries appear as if someone forcefully dragged her across pavement on more then one occasion, since we were not there, we are unable to know what actually happened. I have never seen my dog like this in the 5 years we have had her. It also states on their website: "You may bring easily washable bedding and a few toys.” My fiance was very clearly sent home with our dogs bedding, which is a real comfort item for our timid bulldog. Also, due to our dogs corkscrew tail she requires a little bit of a wipe after she goes to the bathroom. We requested this upon drop off and provided a package of wipes, we would have been more then happy to pay a fee if necessary. Her poor bottom was a mess when we picked her up and upon wiping her tail was also bleeding. On top of it all … we noticed how thin she appeared so we checked her food that was given back to us and there was only 1 days worth of food gone, out of the 4 days she was at the facility. The person checking us out did not mention that our dog wasn’t eating & actually went as far to tell us she had just finished dinner. If so… I’m not sure what they were feeding her, it was definitely not the pre-measured food we provided. This is important as bulldogs have a very sensitive digestive system (should be very common knowledge for those in the animal care industry). This standard of care is not acceptable & it sickens me that we paid the escarpment pet retreat to harm our dog.
