I am a freelance Spanish/French to English translator based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and I would like to offer my services. I have many years of experience as a volunteer translator for an Edmonton Immigrant Association. After translating for the Association for some time, I was promoted to proofreader and am now proofreading other translators’ work.
After many successful years of teaching Spanish and French, I started my freelance translation business and am now an associate member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (affiliated with the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council and with the International Federation of Translators).
I have a B.A. in Spanish from a Mexican university and an M.A. in French, as well as a B.A. in modern languages from a Canadian university. I have studied and worked in Mexico and Ecuador. I also studied French in Paris, France.
I have translated general as well as specialized documents in the areas of literature, medicine, law and education, as well as in other specialized areas. I especially like the challenge of translating documents that use difficult language. I have translated birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, university transcripts, letters of recommendation, court orders, court settlements, and many other types of documents.
I have a Master’s degree in library and information science and, in light of my research skills, am able to easily adapt to other specialized subject fields.
My home office computer equipment includes a desktop and laptop computer with daily backups, high-speed Internet access and a fax machine. I have worked from my home office for the past thirteen years for a distance education center as a senior high school teacher of Spanish and French.
