Company description
War Memorial honouring DECEASED WHILE FIGHTING SOLDIERS of WW1, WW2, and Korean War. Completely separate from Wall of Honour 2010 & Veterans Wall of Honour. Cenotaph placed here and dedicated in 1929. It shares the honour to be one of only three war memorials designed by Sir Walter Alyward, the others being Ottawa and Vimy Ridge. On the major part of Confederation Square the citizens of Peterborough gather here November 11 at the 11th hour to remember the soldiers, not the people who used to be buried, but were disinterred in 1858, in Peterborough's first burial ground. Was any person ever buried at the corner of Park St. and Parkhill Road at the burial grounds marked on Sandford Fleming's 1846 map? More of our Fyple sites for Peterborough are Walkway Of Remembrance, Wall Of Honour(2010), Smith Town Hill House, Braetop Cotage, Kirkview and Boyd Park(Smith Town Hill Parkette).
