I have never in my life written an on-line review about anything/anyone before, however with my personal experience and inside knowledge about this place I almost feel like it's my responsibility to warn people about Anisha's MediSpa.
I myself am I certified Esthetician, I went to a highly recognized school here in Calgary and I graduated with an Honors Diploma at the top of my class.
I recently had an interview at Anisha's and the experience was awful, it was by far the most unprofessional interview I've ever had in my life (and I used to work in retail, restaurants and bars before I went to school.)
After we finished up I asked for a quick tour of the spa and she seemed very hesitant to show me around.
When I saw the treatment rooms all that caught my eye was how unclean everything was, there was still wooden (and what are meant to be disposable) spatulas in each wax pot, and there was dirty sheets and laundry everywhere.
I happened to be back at my old school the day after that interview to pick up a few things and I got to talking with one of my old teachers and I mentioned it to her, she immediately warned me not to work there and continued on to tell me one of my previous class mates had actually gotten a job there but could only handle it for 2 days because it was so filthy and went against everything we had learned in school.
For example, at Anisha's when they wax their clients they "double dip" which means they're using a disposable spatula to collect wax from the pot, they apply it onto the client (let’s say during a bikini or Brazilian waxing) and then instead of throwing the spatula out which is the correct and hygienic way to do it, they dip it BACK into the wax only to keep repeating this cycle.
A fun fact about doing a waxing service on a soft tissue area (like bikini, Brazilian, underarms and even brow) is that 99% of the time there is some bleeding from the hair follicle which is completely normal.
So if anyone was to have a type of disease that is present in blood like HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis, etc. Or any other contagious disease or condition, it is being transferred into that pot of wax to be used on the next person.
That pot of wax is not going to be used up during a single service, so the next person who comes in that wants say, a lip wax...well, you get the idea.
While the chance of spreading any of these threw wax is low, there is still a very real risk.
This is only ONE thing out of the many services they offer that they do not perform in a hygienic manner, so I can only imagine how they handle their other services.
Even Manicures and Pedicures run a huge risk of injury and infection if not done by a dedicated and hygienic professional.
Something as small as a dirty foot file can transfer fungus and bacteria causing infection, or accidently nipping your cuticle too far there for causing you to bleed, is another entry for bacteria and disease if the tools they’re using are not sterilized properly.
Because of these reasons and others, Anisha's has actually been reported to the Calgary Health Board numerous times and I know this because the director of the program at my old school is one of the people who reported the business herself after hearing what my old class mate had to tell her about working there after only 2 days.
I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy to go to Anisha’s.
